How Do You Know if Your Air Conditioner Needs Repair?
In some cases, no matter how well you maintain your appliances, they will need some special attention sooner or later. Don’t miss these signs that your AC needs repair!
You Know Your AC Needs Repair When…
Hot air is blowing from the unit. If the point of an air conditioner is to cool the air in your home, hot air may indicate a broken compressor or refrigerant leak.
Moisture is near the system. Any leaking, puddling, or freezing on your air conditioning unit most likely tells you that you have a condensation line blockage. If you notice excess water in any form around your air conditioning unit, give your home warranty company a call ASAP.
It makes weird sounds. Your air conditioner should run fairly quietly. If you start to hear grinding, squealing, grating, or other loud noises, your air conditioner may need to be cleaned or tightened in some parts.
You notice unusual smells. A strong, pungent smell may indicate the wire insulation in the system is burned and needs to be replaced. Musty smells could mean there is mold in your ductwork, clogged condensate drain, or dirty cooling coils.
The thermostat is not working properly. If your air conditioning unit runs for small periods of time prior to shutting itself off, or if it won’t turn on altogether, this can be an indication that the thermostat is not working to full capability.
Energy bills are higher than normal. The cause of this problem may be one of many including a broken thermostat switch, leaks in your HVAC system’s ductwork, or the elevated age of the air conditioning unit.
To put it in a nutshell, if you notice or smell anything that doesn’t seem totally normal, it is time to call an HVAC professional immediately!
